Measuring principle:
Conductivity is the ability of a solution to conduct electricity. The principle of measuring conductivity by the instrument is very simple. Two discs (conductivity plates) are placed in the sample solution, and a voltage is applied to the two discs to measure the current. The conductivity of a solution is proportional to its ion concentration, since the charge of the ions in the solution contributes to electrical conduction. All conductance measurements are affected by temperature, and the degree of influence varies from solution to solution, which can be compensated by thermistors and temperature compensation meters in the electrodes. Since the conductivity is in most cases proportional to the concentration of ions in the solution, it is easy to determine the concentration of total dissolved solids in the solution and the salinity of the solution by measuring the conductivity.
